MFA alums ANDREW ARMSTRONG '02, STEVEN BANKHEAD '01, JESSE BENSON '03, ANNIE BUCKLEY '03, CARLA DANES '01, ED GOMEZ '03, LUIS HERNANDEZ 03, MATT MCFARLAND '03 and MIKE ROGERS '96 showed their work in IN THE ROUND, at Andrew Shire Gallery from October 3 to October 25, 2008. The show was organized by alum ED GOMEZ '03, in cooperation with Director of Otis Alumni Relations, Sarah Russin, for the citywide series of exhibitions OTIS ACROSS LA.
Graduate Fine Arts Chair ROY DOWELL and graduate faculty KORI NEWKIRK are included in 20 Years Ago Today, an exhibition that celebrates the 20th anniversary of the California Community Foundation’s Fellowships for Visual Artists at the Japanese American National Museum from October 4, 2008 to January 11, 2009.
Alum ED GOMEZ '03 is part of The Whole World is Watching at The Glendale College Art Gallery from September 20th until November 8, 2008. Irene Tsatsos was the guest curator.
Graduate faculty ANNETTA KAPON participated in the exhibition IN TRANSITION RUSSIA 2008 organized by NeMe and the Independent Museum of Contemporary Art (IMCA), Cyprus, in collaboration with the National Centres of Contemporary Art (NCCA), Ekaterinburg and Moscow, in the Russian Federation. The exhibition runs from October 16 to December 22, 2008. KAPON also presented her work in the International Conference: " In Transition: Cultural Identity in an age of Transnational and Transcultural Flux" organized by NeMe, the Ural State University and the Academy of Contemporary Art, Ekaterinburg.
As a member of a four-person MAK Center team, alum NIZAN SHAKED '00, received an exhibition award of $150,000 from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation to mount "How Many Billboards on the Boulevard?," an outdoor exhibition of conceptual art. The exhibitions are scheduled to open between 2009 and 2011.
Grads AMANDA KELLER-KONYA and TASHA MOORE were selected for a two-week trip to France to take photographs from October 15 to October 28, 2008. The trips were sponsored by Maison de la France-the French Government Tourist Office and French Cultural Services in Los Angeles.
The work of WHITNEY STOLICH '03 is showcased in the Skadden/Arps LA 25 exhibition, which was held on September 27 at the Hammer Museum. The LA 25 artists are also in the exhibition "Half Life" at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE) from October 8 to November 16, 2008.
On Saturday, September 27, 2008, alum TONE NIELSEN '98 participated in the panel "whatever happened to the alter-globalization movement?learning from the recent past, planning for the future" as part of the exhibition "asking we walk, voices of resistance" from September 27 to October 19, 2008 at Den Frie Udstillingsbygning, Oslo, and Copenhagen, Denmark.The exhibition is curated by Kuratorisk Aktion (Berlin & Copenhagen) and Katarina Stenbeck (Copenhagen)www.denfrie.dk.
