The Evil Dead, its
significance:
The was the first horror film Minerva watched. Her mother did not approve of watching the violent and nightmare-prone films at such a young age but when Minerva was away on vacation in Mexico, who'd know? Spanish subtitles and all, Minerva and her cousins watched the entire film, not once, but twice. The images danced in her head as her cousins flinched with fear. The eagerly receptive 9 year old mind had entered a whole new world of fear, gore, suspense, and humor. Minerva would never be the same.
(Having watched The Evil Dead in Mexico, the title was lost in translation. Al Despertar Del Diablo (translated means "the awakening of the devil") took years of research and often ridicule to find its U.S. title and once found, even harder to obtain a copy! It wasn't until Minerva's 18th birthday that they were reunited once again, in the VHS isle at the Target in Yuma, AZ.)
