Hataya Tubtim
Lived most of my life in Los Angeles. I have a design degree from Art Center College of Design.
I also have lived and worked in New York for about 4 years, recently moving back to LA in late 2005.
Since my earliest college days I have volunteered on some level in my community. Starting with the Thai Community Center in North Hollywood over 10 years ago. Today, these endeavors have evolved to teaching and outreach for non- profits all over Los Angeles. Most recently, I have taught for public programs at Art Center College of Design, the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, and The Heart Project, Los Angeles. I have also done outreach to underserved communities for the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.
Artistically, my interests involve space, place, image, and the audience’s relationship to those. Having lived in diverse communities, I wonder how we can spark creative dialogue that gives an equal voice to all participants, I wonder how art can make a presence in public space without intruding upon those who will experience it.
