A panel of artists discuss unique and varied projects sited in rural communities of California’s Great Central Valley. 

This program is presented in conjunction with OTIS Connects: San Joaquin Valley, Funded in part by the Ford Foundation.

Ashley Hunt is an artist, activist and writer who engages the ideas of social movements, public discourse and intersections between politics and subjectivity. His primary work of the past eight years has been The Corrections Documentary Project (correctionsproject.com), which deals with the contemporary growth of prisons and their centrality to today’s economic restructuring and the malleable politics of race.

Suzanne Lacy is an artist and writer whose work includes large-scale public performances and installations, photographs and text on issues of social justice and equity. She is Chair of the new Master’s in Fine Arts: Public Practice program at Otis College of Art and Design.

Michael Miller is an artist who typically creates community-based interactive projects in alternative venues as in the Bakersfield Yard Sale Project.  He is originally from Appalachia and received an MFA degree from the University of Southern California.  His work has been featured in national and international venues.

Claude Willey is an artist and educator, lecturing in the Urban Studies and Planning Department at California State University, Northridge and in the Humanities and Design-Science Research Department at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, also an instructor of the Otis MFA program in Public Practice.
