Christopher Robbins

 

Christopher G. Robbins is an Associate Professor of Social Foundations at Eastern Michigan University. While working within the fields of critical sociology, sociology of education and critical cultural studies, Christopher focuses on critical and public pedagogy with particular attention to questions of agency and voice, criminalization and militarization of public schools and culture, and the intersections of social class, structural racism, and public policy. He has also begun work in intellectual history. As of 2011, he is continuing his work on a book-length study of Henry A. Giroux's body of work, The Promise of Pedagogy: Exploring the Social Thought of Henry Giroux. He is the editor of The Giroux Reader (Paradigm, 2006) and the author of Expelling Hope: The Assault on Youth and the Militarization of Schooling (SUNY Press, 2008), in addition to various articles that have appeared in both scholarly and popular venues.
